I have nothing to wear out. This doesn’t match. I look like a hobo. Have you said these words before? Most men find it hard to figure out what to wear when leaving the house on a daily bases. That's why if your like my husband you might wear the same outfit until it doesn't pass the sniff check. Here's a guide to avoiding stress and always looking your best with some ideas for versatile streetwear.
Everyday streetwear can be original, sporty, or dressy. But it is not the same as casual wear. You can wear sweatpants for streetwear since it's supposed to be comfortable but, I wouldn't recommend them for a casual day at the office.
Everyday streetwear is thought of as a big hood, oversized shirt and sneakers. But, depending on where you live in the world what's normal to one is odd to another.
Footwear
The most common street wear shoes are sneakers. Perhaps you are a sneakerhead and want to have over 30-50 pairs or you are someone who owns 3 shoes. The good thing is that most men only need 3-5 pairs of shoes.
One style of streetwear sneakers is the famously popular California skater style. Typical streetwear shoes in Cali are slip-on vans or tie-up vans. This is the ultimate skater-boy see you later boy shoe.
Another popular street style is more city. City streetwear shoes are crisp sneakers such as Jordans and Air Force ones. These classic shoes match any outfit for a relaxed yet clean look.
In addition, we had combat or work boots such as Timberlands which make any look pulled together. While creating your perfect wardrobe choose at least one waterproof pair that you can wear on those rainy days.
Finally, we have to add another must-shoe to your street wardrobe. Especially in the summer, you need one pair of sandals that are comfortable to wear all day. You can opt for one with straps in the back and a velcro closure or an open design with a thick strap across. You can’t go wrong with any of the shoes you choose because comfort is what you have in mind.
Tops
When we think streetwear we think all day comfort. That is why a breathable shirt is a must. Materials such as cotton and seersucker can be created in a variety of styles. Some great street styles are t-shirts, collared shirts and hoodies.
For most teenagers, they prefer to have an oversized fit to their clothes. Though this may be tempting to replicate a modern fit loose, not baggy size is best to accentuate what you want and to hide what you do want to be seen. It's okay if you have a little beer belly, a relaxed silhouette will complement you without looking like a tent with legs.
The best material however is cotton. It's easy to clean and lightweight. Cotton also lays well on the skin without irritation.
Trousers
A must have for any streetwear style is a good pair of straight-leg dark denim jeans. They can be an old and faithful Levi or any denim that is well constructed. Jeans were invented for farming life originally but they have made it into everyday fashion staples. Be sure to have at least two pairs in your wardrobe.
Cargo pants are the pants that every man wants in his wardrobe because of the many pockets and the baggy yet chic style they offer. Cargo pants can be paired with a t-shirt for a more traditional look or a collared button-down for a mixture of dressy and street wear.
We don’t think of streetwear without imagining sweatpants. From celebrities down to everyday people sweat pants have made their way into everyday life. No more is it just a thing to wear around the house. When choosing your next set of sweats to wear around town opt for cream, grey or black as they give you a relaxed look but are still dressy in a way.
Jacket
To pair perfectly with any denim or cargo pant is a jean jacket. This is the go too jacket for any streetwear outing should it be coffee, movies or to the market you will still look your best.
In addition, the varsity jacket is a century-old jacket that will always be in style. Although this jacket started as a reward for players in Harvard also called the letterman jacket it is a staple in colleges all over. Now this jacket is a part of everyday looks due to its comfort and unique style.
Next, we have a puffer jacket. Since it came on the scene this jacket has never gone out of style. Thankfully due to good design, it brings you comfort, and warmth in extreme cold while still making you look put together.
Then we have the work jacket, this style was originally for manual labour but it's the perfect jacket for everyday style. This can be matched with chino pants or denim jeans. In addition, if you live in a colder area many come with a sherpa lining to give your body a nice warm feel.
Lastly, flannel jackets are also super jackets as they are flexible with a pattern and colours. You can find one with a hoodie and one without. This gives you versatility in your style. Be sure to find a heavy coat flannel to pair with some vans or combat boots for a legit outfit that can get you the right attention for looking like you did try to get dressed this morning.
A jacket is often very hard to see the right fit for. Here are a few ways you can tell if they fit it right. If the sleeves don't cover your wrists and the bottom of the coat rides up then the coat is too small. On the other hand, if the sleeves go down past your thumb, and the shoulders are much wider than your shoulders, the coat is too big. Especially when it comes to coats the fit is crucial. This can either make or break a great outfit.
It's Time to Be Seen
Less is more when it comes to anything. That's why it's not only the pieces you have but also the quality you choose for your new pieces. To keep things at a minimal but also with some wiggle room these are some suggestions for a complete streetwear wardrobe overhaul.
Having these staple pieces will make your life easier. Think about it, we often feel how we look, so we do not need to look bad and feel bad. Boost your confidence in life with a curated style just for you.
